Declared a Festival of International Tourist Interest, Seville’s Holy Week is one of the most iconic celebrations in Spain’s cultural events calendar. Since the 16th century, brotherhoods and fraternities have paraded through the streets carrying ornate Baroque depictions of the Virgin Mary and Christ. The Madrugá, between Maundy Thursday and Good Friday, is the highlight of the week, with processions of figures such as Jesús del Gran Poder and La Macarena moving thousands to tears. Accompanied by the rhythmic beat of drums and heartfelt Flamenco saetas, these processions transform Seville into a stage of art, faith, and tradition.
